Information Technology
(Department of Information Technology under MITPUNE is now MIT-WPU School of Information Technology)

The pivotal role of the technical education system in facilitating and expediting the process of economic and industrial development of the country is well recognized. Technical education is one of the most significant components of human resource development spectrum with great potential for adding value to products and services, for contributing to the national economy, and for improving the quality of the life of the people.

The nation has invested thousand of crores in the Technical Education System. The development sustenance of the industrial sector is entirely dependent on the availability of trained manpower to perform the multidimensional activities needed to keep the wheel of industry running. The Technical Education system aims at making available the services of these trained technically qualified hands to the industry and society.

Technical Education system thus has to be flexible enough to adapt to rapid change. Thus, precise aim of the system is to develop and transfer technology to user systems. With the advancement in technology and breathtaking growth of emerging areas, it has become necessary for the technical institutes to churn out more and more competent engineers and cater to the needs of the industry and of the society at large.

Information Technology has penetrated in every area. In every sector of today's life Information Technology is playing an important role. Even R & D departments in various IT companies have been developed to enable various research oriented activities. Thus, IT has received tremendous importance in the past 10-15 years due to the new economic policies of the government.
In terms of employment, IT engineers have a wide range of opportunities in various companies like Infosys, Calsoft, Persistent, IBM, Wipro, Canbay, L & T Infotech, TATA Consultancy Services, etc. This only goes to indicate that, Information Technology will continue to offer good jobs for many more years to come.

History: Information Technology (2001)
Era of private engineering colleges started in Maharashtra State in 1983. Permission was granted to MIT in 1983. MIT Pune is promoted by MAEER's, which has proved its competence in imparting technical education by establishing three engineering colleges and a polytechnic.
The MIT Pune has been offering undergraduate course in IT since 2001. Within a very short span of time, the department has created an excellent learning environment with dedicated faculty members, technical staff, well equipped laboratories and innovative academic processes.
IT sector is in a period of bloom in terms of growth and opportunity. In the current ever evolving industrial scenario, contents delivered to the students are regularly updated by the faculty members in the present technology-oriented world.
In addition to academic courses, the department also has IT research programmes supported through industry Institute Interaction. Faculty research helps expand the current and future use of new and existing technologies.

  2. Received grant of Rs. 44,000/- from University of Pune (QIP) for organizing workshop on BIGDATA 2014.

  1. Major contribution of faculty towards redesigning in curriculum of University of Pune by organizing SE & TE Syllabus Implementation workshops
